Producer of one of the most famous wines in Pauillac today, Château Pichon-Longueville Baron was owned by the Pichon de Longueville family for a very long time.
The estate was founded in 1694 by Baron Jacques Pichon de Longueville, who acquired through his marriage to Thérèse de Rauzan vines that her father, Pierre de Rauzan, a key figure in Bordeaux viticulture, had purchased five years earlier. . The middle of the 19th century corresponds to a turning point in the history of the estate. It was shared in 1850 between Baron Raoul Pichon de Longueville and his three sisters, sharing which led to the creation of two properties : Château Pichon-Longueville Baron on one side, and Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande on the other. The following year, to mark this distinction, Baron Raoul had the imposing castle built which still stands today at the heart of the estate. To close this turbulent period, the property was crowned second Cru Classé in 1855 for the constant quality of its wine. Château Pichon-Longueville Baron left the Pichon de Longueville family in 1933.
This very fine second classified growth has produced a series of truly astonishing wines and it has established itself at the top of the Médoc hierarchy. Impossible to miss, from the road of the castles, the sumptuous residence of “Pichon Baron”, one of the most impressive buildings of the Médoc. Acquired by the Axa group at the end of the 1980s, this property has been refurbished from top to bottom in less than two decades and the team, around Christian Seely, is carrying out exemplary work which brings it to the top of the Médoc wines. . The vinification tool and the aging cellar, as well as the largely replanted vineyard, have enabled it to reach, in recent vintages, a historic level of quality. The chateau also offers two second wines: Les Griffons and Les Tourelles, made from different blends.
