Lagavulin is the emblematic distillery of Islay, an island in western Scotland renowned for the power of its peated whiskies.

Islay is above all peat. The hundreds of hectares of peat bogs that stretch across the western part of the island provide the raw material that exerts such a characteristic influence on the malts of the region. Lagavulin is certainly the most famous. The heavily peated water used in its production is captured in the torrent that flows from the Solan Lochs, nestled in the hills overlooking the distillery.

Nothing is rushed when it comes to Lagavulin. Before being bottled, the malt rests peacefully in oak barrels. A long fermentation, a long distillation as well as a long maturation ensure Lagavulin all the fullness and richness of its peaty character. This is a whiskey that likes to take its time: the quintessential Islay malt demands nothing less.

Probably one of the most wonderfully located distilleries of all, Lagavulin is also most certainly one that produces the most intense, smokiest and richest whiskeys around.
