Lampong black pepper is grown in the far south of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. It is harvested in the province of Lampong, bordered by the Java Sea on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other. The first Lampong pepper plants were introduced more than ten centuries ago by Indian traders.
Lovers of peppers with character will appreciate: its woody flavors, its spiciness and its power!
On the palate, Lampong black pepper has a warm and biting attack. It is best to grind the peppercorns coarsely in a mortar, just before tasting to release its menthol and exotic wood notes.
In the kitchen, Lampong black pepper goes wonderfully with braised beef, pan-fried mushrooms or fine-fleshed fish accompanied by potatoes from the garden.
