What are Savoy sausages called?
Diot de Savoie (pronounced “dio”) is a typically Savoyard fresh cooked sausage made from pork meat and in a natural casing.
There are different varieties: plain, pure pork, smoked, with cabbage. When you choose it smoked, a traditional smoking process is achieved through the combustion of beech wood.
Usually cooked with onions and wine, Diot de Savoie is very often accompanied by potatoes.
The French word "diot" comes directly from the Savoyard dialect where the word diot means "a little sausage".
