The French are potato lovers. They consume one kilo per week per inhabitant.
France is one of the leaders in the potato market. The national production of potatoes for consumption is 6.5 million tonnes, which makes our country the second largest producer in Western Europe, behind Germany.
Potatoes thrive in temperate, humid regions and in wide open spaces. Their production is concentrated north of the Loire, mainly in the Hauts-de-France region, which alone accounts for two-thirds of national production (64%).
We sell potatoes everywhere: in Western Europe of course (Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom…), in Eastern Europe (Romania, Hungary…), in Africa (Ivory Coast…) , in the Arabian Peninsula (United Arab Emirates…) or in Asia (Vietnam…).
The French potato is appreciated for its very high quality, its good performance, the diversity of varieties (nearly 250).
The French are real potato lovers. It is the favorite vegetable of our fellow citizens (just ahead of tomatoes and lettuce). They claim to cook potatoes at least once a week.
Potatoes are eaten all year round, a little more in winter and autumn. It is bought above all for its taste and ease of preparation.
