Camembert, the emblem of French cheese!
Camembert, the emblem of French cheese!
The unique, the only one, proudly displaying its mark of nobility, is produced exclusively with raw milk.
The famous “Moulded with a ladle”, made in 5 successive passages in AOP, requires patience and know-how. So many guarantees of authenticity for an inimitable taste.
Developed in 1791 by Marie HAREL, it is the most famous Norman cheese… and even in France!
A raw milk, soft cheese, it owes its fame in particular to the engineer RIDEL, who invented a box made of poplar wood, allowing Camembert de Normandie to spread rapidly beyond the borders of Normandy.
Today, only the "Camembert de Normandie" has the Protected Designation of Origin (AOP) and has been granted the AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) since 1983.
Camembert is a woman's story!
Indeed, Marie HAREL, born in a small village not far from Camembert, is credited with creating the famous cheese. According to legend, it was while helping a refractory priest who wanted to escape the Republicans that he would have revealed to her, to thank her, the secret of making another cheese with a bloomy rind, Brie. Subsequently, it was his daughter, also named Marie, who developed the production of Camembert.
