Count for plums
“Counting for plums”… What remains of the Templars.
Big consumers of fruit, the French produce 2.5 million tons per year of all species...
Our language bears the mark of this love: "to have the peach", "to be half fig, half grape", "cut the pear in half", "squeeze the lemon", "between the pear and the cheese", or “not to count as plums”… This last one is strange since in France, we really like plums.
The expression comes from the Crusades where a variety of plums was discovered by the Templars while the Crusaders were laying siege to Damascus in 1148. They brought some back to France.
Then, the Templars will be hunted down… “Counting for plums”: that's all they will have brought back from their incredible epic, it's just plums.
