Paris-Brest: a cake for a bike race
The story goes that Paris-Brest was invented by a pastry chef from Maisons-Laffitte, near Paris, as a tribute to the famous bicycle race which was in its infancy.
It was Pierre Giffard, the founder of the race, who allegedly asked Louis Durand, the pastry chef, to invent a cake to celebrate the race and its runners.
As a result, the authentic Paris-Brest evoke a bicycle wheel!
