There are several, but here is our favorite.
In the 13th century, the pharmacists of Verdun had the idea of coating their remedies with melted sugar and honey, in order to better "pass the pill".
In 1649 Mazarin sent the famous Marshal du Plessis-Praslin to parley with the people of Bordeaux who were a little nervous about the royal power.
To end a “negotiation” dinner (it's a well-known fact that gastronomy soothes people!), the Marshal passed around an enormous vermeil dish from which everyone dipped a kind of unknown sugared almond with a gold spoon, which amazed the guests.
The praline, this crunchy candy made of an almond wrapped in cooked sugar was born!
