Canned fish: they're all good!
They are to be integrated into our daily diet because they have many advantages:
• Nutritional qualities
You you may not know it, but canned fish has this advantage over fresh fish (then simply cooked), that it often concentrates its proteins, its lipids (Omega 3), its minerals and trace elements ( iron, zinc, iodine) and its vitamins (including vitamin D from oily fish).
Depending on the canned fish (tuna, sardines, mackerel), "By eating 100 g of canned fish, we generally receive between 20 and 25 g of protein (30% of the needs for the day) but also nearly 2 mg of iron (15% of the daily requirement), between 30 and 80 µg (15% of the daily requirement) of iodine (25% of the daily requirement) and a lot of Omega 3 (4 to 5 times the daily requirement of Omega 3 derivatives ). They are also a good source of vitamin D, at 6 to 10 mcg, or 100% of our daily need for this precious vitamin necessary for bone vitality.
As we can see, it's always good to take and it would be reasonable to put it on the menu at least once a week: the current average is once a month for 89% of consumers (including once a week for a third of them).
• Taste qualities
Health is not everything, there is also gluttony.
Most consumers consume canned fish as they come out of the box or, if need be, in mixed salads or pasta for tuna. However, they are "inspiring" and can also be accommodated in gourmet dishes that are easy and quick to prepare.
Here are some loose ideas: sardine acras; eggplant rolls with sardines; sardine rillettes; tomato and sardine bruschetta; sardine empanadas; tuna cake; tuna pizza; cocktail tomatoes stuffed with tuna and fromage blanc; sardine cheesecake; sardine croque-monsieur; tuna bagnat breads; salad of penne pasta, tuna, feta, arugula and candied tomatoes; salad of penne pasta with tuna, peas and piquillo peppers and chorizo; guacamole and sardine tacos; tabbouleh with tuna and coriander; sardine bisque; tuna crumble; potato cake with sardines; wok-fried tuna; peppers stuffed with rice, tuna and grapes; tomatoes stuffed with tuna; tuna soufflé; potato croquettes with tuna and almonds; mild tuna curry with coconut milk; tuna brandade; shepherd's pie with sardines; etc etc...
• A good price-performance ratio
Statistics show that in the kitchen cupboards of the French (at 8 out of 10 French people), there are for 80% of them two products always present: pasta and canned fish. It even got worse during the lockdown. It must be said that apart from the nutritional and gourmet sides, their price is attractive.
Difficult to do better with so many benefits.
