French Culinary Expression: HANGING THE HOUSEWARMING
You know that this is the consecrated formula for designating the small (or large) party that will allow you to visit the new home of a relative or friend for the first time, and you have noticed that certain scrupulous hosts go so far as I hang something in the fireplace that day.
Because the "rack", a word of uncertain origin (perhaps going back to a Greek form which designated the action of suspend), is a "flat piece of iron, serrated and curved at the bottom, which is suspended in chimneys to support the pot" where the meal is cooked.
