It was in 1850 that the Groult family set up on the exploitation of the Clos de la Hurvanière, in Saint Cyr du Ronceray, between Orbec and Lisieux, in Calvados.
It is here that Pierre Groult begins to produce and age his first eaux-de-vie. Pierre's son, Léon Groult (1874-1923) continues to produce and develop sales of his Calvados Pays d'Auge locally, in Normandy. Roger Groult (1905-1988), son of Léon, gave the real boost to the Groult house. He distributes his Calvados throughout France and makes the reputation of the house. The export of Calvados to all countries of the world was initiated by Jean-Pierre Groult in the 1980s. The famous Norman beverage was still relatively unknown at that time outside of France, few small Calvados houses exported it.
Thanks to the know-how and the passion for the trade transmitted from father to son, Roger Groult Calvados pass in 5 generations from the marketing of their Calvados in the bistro of the country, to the greatest tables and cellars of the whole world today. This is a magnificent family epic, that of Calvados Roger Groult.
Jean-Roger Groult, 5th generation, has been at the head of the family distillery since 2008. He continues to produce his Calvados Pays d'Auge with the same rigor and the same quality requirements. Jean Roger Groult also continues to promote its calvados throughout the world, by being particularly present at the biggest international fairs and competitions.
Roger Groult, exceptional Calvados Pays d'Auge...
Calvados Groult are produced in double distillation as required by the AOC Calvados Pays d'Auge specifications. After the brewing of the apples and a slow fermentation of the juices, the ciders to be distilled obtained will be transformed into eau de vie by the estate's 3 small pot stills. These stills are still traditionally heated over a wood fire. The brandies are then left to age in oak barrels for a minimum period of 2 years before being eligible for the Calvados appellation.
